Do you have a particular poem in mind, or want to find the poetry of a particular poet? If so, you likely need look no further than the resources available through this page. This is not a gratuitous "links" page that may or may not point to everything available online, but a carefully researched and considered listing of the most valuable resources online.
The archival sites listed here will either have what you seek on site, or have a link to a site that does have what you seek.

African-American Poetry—A compilation of indices for the best resources for African-American poetry from archival resources to contemporary poets and Web sites.
Bartleby.com—In addition to their archived anthologies, this site has an extensive library of references to help writers develop their craft and fine-tune their writing.
Documenting the American South—A large, searchable archive of digitized literature from the Antebellum, Civil War and Reconstruction Era South—a tremendously useful primary research resource. For poetry related materials from the collection, see this pre configured Google Search return.
Electronic Poetry Center—A large, well organized poetry archive and index of online poetry resources ranging from audio to (e)zines.
Internet Poetry Archive—A representative collection of the writings of several contemporary poets.
Making of America—A large (very large) database of Eighteenth, Nineteenth and early Twentieth Century publications (books and periodicals) in several formats. Though original publications of many of the notables are available here, the resource is better suited to original research for published works of obscure poets and writers of America's past.

PAL: Perspectives in American Literature—A Research and Reference Guide - An Ongoing Project—A well organized, accessible compendium of bibliographies of the writings of historical figures and writers in many genre with links to online sources. PoemHunter.com—A growing resource of 35,461 poems from 5,205 poets from Shakespeare to the contemporary era. Search by title, poet name or perform text searches. Seeks input from visitors and provides a free poem-of-the-day newsletter to keep interested visitors up on the archive's growth.
Poetseers.org— A large archive of biographical sketches and examples of the poetry for an array of poets from the ancient mystics to contemporary poets with an emphasis on the spiritual aspects of poetry.
Cowboy Poetry Archive—An archive of representative contemporary cowboy poetry, Yeee Ha! Don't laugh. Many a remarkable verse resides herein. Most often formalist and accessible, cowboy poetry is often well written and is a vital and engaging genre in the contemporary poetry scene—and more lucrative than most. Try this pre formatted Google search for more information about this all-American art form.
The Online Medieval and Classical Library—the Digital Library SunSITE, UC Berkeley—A multi-cultural archive of literary works from classical and medieval times.
The Poetry Archive—If the bouncing banner ads are not too distracting, poetry dating to the Greek classics can be found here.
Sonnet Central—An archive of English sonnets, commentary, and relevant web links and a forum for poets to share and discuss their own work. Sonnets are grouped by period and can also be accessed via an alphabetical list of authors or the java navigation page. All of the sonnets included here (as well as most of those that are linked) are modernized texts for the general reader and are not presented for purposes of scholarly work.
