Permafrost

An international journal for the arts distributed in the fall of each year, accepts submissions between September 1 and March 1.

We accept unsolicited fiction, nonfiction, poetry and artwork for regular publication in the journal, and we also administer yearly contests, with cash prizes for Fiction and Poetry.

Submissions - Regular submissions are read between September 1 and March 1. All pieces receive three independent readings from our staff of volunteer readers, all of whom are Graduate Students or Faculty in the English Department at The University of Alaska Fairbanks.

Contests

Contest submissions will all be read after the contest deadline (March 15). Notification will be mailed on May 10.

Permafrost sponsors two annual literary contests. No-one affiliated with UAF is in any way eligible for the literary contest.

Susan Blalock Chapbook Contest
Follow our general style guidelines. Submission for the poetry contest should consist of a chapbook-length manuscript of no more than 36 pages, a SASE, and $10. All entrants will receive a year's subscription to Permafrost. First place winner receives $100 and 30 copies of the chapbook.

Midnight Sun Fiction Contest
Follow our general style guidelines. Entries to Permafrost's fiction contest must be sent individually (one story per submission) and should include a SASE and the $10 fee. Submissions must be double-spaced and limited to 30 pages. All entrants will receive a year's subscription to Permafrost and are eligible for publication, but only the first-place winner gets the hundred bucks.

So there you go. If we haven't made it clear by now, all CONTEST entries must include a reading fee. Entries without the necessary reading fee will be considered general submissions. Make checks payable to Permafrost. All entries must be accompanied by a SASE for notification.
