The University of Iowa Press seeks proposals for book projects
in the following areas:
Literary Studies.
We concentrate on U.S. literature, particularly children's literature,
biography, and women's studies.
Whitman Studies. We are the premier
publisher of Whitman scholarship. Ed Folsom edits the Iowa Whitman
Series.
Sightline Books: The Iowa Series in Literary Nonfiction.
Showcasing literary essays and creative nonfiction by both
established and emerging writers, this series is edited by Carl
Klaus and Patricia Hampl.
Letters, Diaries, and Memoirs. We
are always delighted to consider source texts edited and annotated
by scholars.
Archaeology and Anthropology.
We focus primarily on the Andean region; recently, we have also
started publishing titles in midwestern archaeology.
American Land and Life Series.
This series, edited by Wayne Franklin, focuses on the point
where nature and culture meet, where landscape represents the
complex encounter of the human will and the natural world.
Poetry.
In addition to our annual awards for short fiction and
poetry (see our submission guidelines for the Iowa Prize),
we publish thematic, edited anthologies of poetry. Note: we
do not publish original novels.
Regional Natural History. We have
published a number of titles in this area, including books on
plants, birds, and animals in the Midwest.
Regional Studies. We welcome nonfiction
manuscripts that consider any aspect of midwestern life and culture.
