The Sewanee Writers' Conference offers workshops in poetry, fiction, and playwriting, as well as individual manuscript conferences. Faculty composition varies from year to year but always features distinguished and well-known writers; visitors from other aspects of the profession—editors, agents, publishers—also visit to make presentations. Readings, craft lectures, panel discussions, and many opportunities for informal contact round out the schedule. Awards are available on a competitive basis for writers with publications, or, in the case of playwrights, productions. The SWC uses the lovely facilities of Sewanee: The University of the South, which is located on the Cumberland Plateau in middle Tennessee.
