The Barbara Mandigo Kelly Peace Poetry Award is an annual series of awards to encourage poets to explore and illuminate positive visions of peace and the human spirit. The Poetry Awards include three age categories: Adult, Youth 13-18, and Youth 12 & Under.

Entry Guidelines:
Poems may be of any subject matter, type or style. Entries must be original, unpublished, not submitted elsewhere for publication or broadcast, not accepted elsewhere for publication or broadcast, and not entered simultaneously in any other competition. This includes different "versions" of the same poem.
Length of each entry must not exceed 30 written lines. This may be one poem, or up to three short poems, whose cumulative total does not exceed 30 lines.
Payment must be by cheque or money order, in Canadian funds, payable to The Writers' Circle of Durham Region or via PayPal at the WCDR site.
Winners will be announced in the first week of June and the names and winning entries posted here on the WCDR website by the end of June. Only winners will be contacted.

Féile FilÌochta
An international poetry competition with a prize fund of 17,000 euro from D&Mac250;n Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council, three age categories and a range of additional prizes from cultural organisations and embassies, the Féile FilÌochta is internationally recognised as a showcase and stimulus for the craft of poetry writing.
The competition is open to all adults and young people, who may submit up to four poems in each language in their age group. These age groups are: Adult; Young People Under 17; and in the Irish and English languages, a Young People Under 12 category. Entry is free of charge.
Entries are invited in Irish, English, German, French, Italian, Welsh, Spanish, Scottish Gaelic and Swedish

The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award [The Poetry Society - UK]
Any writer between the ages of 11 and 18 can enter.
Poems can also be sent by email or postal mail.
Poets can enter as many poems as they choose, of any length and on any theme.

Award: All winners and runners-up will receive book prizes donated by publishers Bloodaxe and Faber & Faber, plus free youth membership of the Poetry Society for one year, and will be invited to an awards party on National Poetry Day, 7 October 2004. The 15 overall winners will be invited to attend the prize-winners writing course at the Arvon Centre, Lumb Bank in February 2005.
How to claim your free copy of this anthology To receive a free copy of this anthology on entering the competition simply enclose an A5 self-addressed envelope with a 35p stamp with your poems.
There are three categories of student writers: Grades 1-5; Grades 6-8; Grades 9-12. Fee per entry is $10 per entry for members of Willamette Writers and $15 per entry for non-members.
Writing categories are: Fiction - maximum 2500 words; Non-Fiction - maximum 2500 words; Poetry - Two complete poems may be submitted as one entry, any subject or form. Maximum length five pages for total entry; Juvenile Short Story or Article - Fiction or Non-Fiction - Maximum length 1500 words; and Screenwriting.

Award: Student writers are awarded $50 for first place in three grade divisions, $20 for second place, and $10 for third place. The Liam Callen Memorial Award of $500 goes to the best overall contest entry in all divisions.
Fledgling Voices - A Poetry Contest for Younger Writers

Poems have to be in English and should be all your own original work. You can write about whatever you like. If you want some help choosing a subject, it could be good to discuss it with a friend in your community or at home.
Poems may be any length up to but not more than 40 lines.
The competition is for people from 13 to 18 years old; so we ask you to tell us your month and year of birth.
There is an entry fee of £2, which you can pay by Postal Order bought at a Post Office or by cheque made out to "Kick Start Poets". With this single payment you may enter either one poem or two.
Type or write your poem(s) on one side of A4 paper. Do not put your name, address or anything else on that sheet. Be sure to keep a copy for yourself, as we shall not return the one you send us.
Paul A. Witty Outstanding Literature Award
Administerd by IRA's Special Interest Group, Reading for Gifted and Creative Students, this award recognizes excellence in original poetry or prose written by students.

Kentucky State Poetry Society Student Poetry Contest

Award: The winning poem in each category will be published in the Society's poetry journal Pegasus, and winners receive certificates and small monetary prizes presented at the annual awards banquet in October where they will have the opportunity to read their poem.
The Manningham Student Poetry Awards [National Federation of State Poetry Societies]
For grades 6-12 to submit original works of poetry to the youth chair of their state poetry society for consideration for awards. The name of the youth chair is available from the president of the student's state society (to find the state president's address, go to State Links). Only poems submitted to youth chairs are eligible for these awards.
This competition is open to all students attending public, private, or parochial schools. There are two divisions: Junior, Grades 6-8, and Senior, Grades 9-12. Each state is allowed to submit 10 poems from each division, a total of 20 poems.
Poems may have been printed in school or state anthologies and may have won previous prizes.

Silver Lake College High School Literary Contest
The Silver Lake College English Department is sponsoring its third annual literary contest open to all high school students. Entrants may submit works in one or both categories of poetry and/or fiction. Three winners from each category will be selected.
To mark the occasion of the English departments addition of a new creative writing major and minor, first prize winners will receive $2000 renewable Silver Lake College scholarship. In addition to the scholarships, first prize selections from both categories will be published in Silver Reflections, a literary journal published annually by Silver Lake College. Cash prizes of $75 for second and $50 for third place will also be awarded. The Younkin-Rivera Prizes for Young Writers at Southern Illinois University Carbondale
