Important stuff to know before you go any further
When you search for writing contests, there may be a few "scam" artists in the mix that turns up in your search. Free youth poetry contests really should be free, but remember too that "free" is not always free. A lot of unethical people use "free" just to find some way to get to those who believe that free means free.

A few words of advice—be sure to follow the guidelines! If you don't, you might as well go watch TV or play a video game. The first year we offered our scholarship, none of the young people who submitted to the competition met all the requirements, and some didn't follow any of them—so they wasted their time and ours. In fact, only one young person submitted a poem that met our required form.
